Nose Surgery - Rhinoplasty
Nose surgery is one of the most exacting operations done with aesthetic surgery. The nose, being the focus of the face, is very sensitive to perceptions by the patient and others. Its reshaping, reduction, or increase in size frequently changes the general expression of the face.

The surgery may also improve problems with nasal function, such as breathing, aesthetic function and psychology considerably, freeing the patient of any complexes and enhancing his/her spiritual harmony.

The first and very important step to be taken before any decision is made is a personal consultation with an experienced and licensed plastic surgeon. Any issues related to the nose shape, size and type, breathing, and particularly motives or psychological reasons for the surgery, need to be addressed. A good state of health is a natural prerequisite.

The optimal age range for rhinoplasty is after the completion of adolescence (girls circa 16-17 years of age, boys from the age of 18) to approximately 65 years of age. It is not only the aspect of healing, having sufficient elasticity and tissue adaptability, but also the psychological aspect.

OPERATION

The operation is performed under local anaesthesia; however, with a request general anaesthesia can be used. The surgery is done by an internal method, through the nostrils. During the plastic surgery, the soft parts of the nose, cartilage and bones, are loosened and reshaped. The operation is completed with the adhesive plaster and plaster fixation to the nose with nasal tampons inserted into the nostrils. With the nostrils filled, the patient must breath through the mouth and the mouth mucosa gets dry quickly, therefore it is necessary to drink more frequently.

Temporary eyelid swelling and bruising are common side effects of the surgery. Cold compresses will reduce the swelling.

POSTOPERATIVE PERIOD

Patients stay overnight in the clinic and are usually released from the clinic the following morning. Rest is recommended for several days and the tampons will be removed on the 3rd day. The nostrils should be kept clean using cotton brushes every 2 to 3 hours. The sutures are removed between the 7th to 10th days after the surgery and between days 17 to 21, the plaster splint is removed and worn only at night for another 10 to 14 days.
